A dental bridge is a natural looking way to successfully fill in those unsightly spaces and help restore your confidence. A longer lasting alternative to dentures, dental bridges are an effective way to replace one or more missing teeth.
They consist of a false tooth, positioned between two crowns, which slot over the teeth either side of the gap (known as abutment teeth) or they can help in place by dental implants. Made from porcelain fused to metal or ceramic base fixed in place with dental cement.
- Step 1 – The abutment teeth are prepared by removing a layer of enamel and leaving a strong core.
- Step 2 – Impressions are taken, so the bridge can be custom-made to fit your teeth comfortably.
- Step 3 – While the bridge is being made, a temporary bridge may be put in place to protect the exposed teeth.
- Step 4 – When ready, the bridge is checked and adjusted to make sure it fits perfectly and it is finally fixed in place with strong dental cement.
We recommend keeping your bridge and surrounding teeth healthy by brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day. Ask your dentist about how to take care of your dental bridge if you are unsure, and visit regularly for a professional cleaning.
